Awarded DCM + bar and Order of St Stanislaus by Russian Government for distinguished services rendered during the course of the campaign in France by the Indian Expeditionary Force Subsequently awarded a bar to his D.C.M. ""for most conspicuous gallantry and coolness during operations under terrific rifle, machine gun, and shell fire in sallying his men. After all the officers of his Battalion were either killed or wounded he took charge and held on to a dangerous position from 2 pm until he withdrew at 6 p.m. Wears the Mons Star.
Wounded three times.
