Was studying for the ministry at the outbreak of war. Writing to Murdo Dan's father, his Captain said: "We had put up two big mines and your son and another officer were detailed with a party of men to seize the craters. They gallantly succeeded in doing this. Having shortly afterwards to give up one of the craters, your son, with great pluck and at great risk, came back for men. He then returned to the attack. Unfortunately, just as he got into the crater, he was shot"
